Norway experienced an uptick in its annual inflation rate, reaching 3.2% in December 2025, slightly above both market forecasts and the previous month's rate of 3%. This represents the highest inflation level since September. The acceleration in price increases was most notable in several key sectors: food and non-alcoholic beverages rose to 5.2% from 4.7% in November, transport costs climbed to 2.7% from 2.2%, and housing and utilities edged up to 3.9% from 3.7%. Additionally, there were higher price hikes in recreation and culture, rising from 3% to 3.1%, health from 2.9% to 3%, and in the restaurant and hotel industry from 4.7% to 5.1%. Conversely, there was a slowdown in the price increases for alcoholic beverages and tobacco, which eased to 3.3% from 3.7%, communications dropping to 3.8% from 4.8%, and miscellaneous goods and services slipping to 1.6% from 1.7%. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices remained stable at 0.1%, consistent with November's figure. Meanwhile, the CPI-ATE, which excludes energy and tax impacts, rose by 3.1% year-on-year, exceeding market projections and the previous month's 3% rise.
