In December 2025, Cyprus experienced a 0.5% year-on-year decrease in consumer prices, mirroring the rate from the previous month. This continuation marked the eighth continuous month of deflation within the consumer sector. Notably, the decline in prices accelerated in areas such as transport, which fell by 0.85% compared to a 0.68% drop in November, housing and utilities, which decreased by 1.65% from 1.17%, and clothing and footwear, with a substantial fall of 7.93% versus the previous 7.61%. Conversely, the cost increases in health services moderated, rising slightly by 1.12% as opposed to 1.19%, alongside communication services at 0.54% from 0.59%, and restaurant and hotel services, which saw a rise of 4.92% compared to 4.98%. Deflation was less pronounced for food and non-alcoholic beverages, which decreased by 2.93% as opposed to the prior 3.09%, and furnishings, household equipment, and routine maintenance, which saw a minor dip of 0.23% versus 0.84%. Meanwhile, prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco saw a greater increase at 1.04% compared to 0.52%, education costs rose to 3.45% from 3.30%, and miscellaneous goods and services climbed to 1.41% from 1.03%. On a month-to-month comparison, consumer prices increased by 0.1%, recovering from a 0.6% decline in November.
