Malaysian palm oil futures surged over 1%, surpassing MYR 4,400 per tonne, as trading resumed following an extended holiday weekend. This upswing ended two consecutive sessions of losses, bolstered by a depreciating ringgit and stronger performances in rival oils traded on the Dalian and Chicago exchanges. Additionally, the ongoing rise in crude oil prices contributed to a more optimistic market sentiment amid the intensifying Russia-Ukraine tensions. Contributing to a positive export outlook, cargo surveyor Intertek Testing Services reported a 10.2% increase in Malaysian palm oil shipments for August compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, Indonesia, the leading global producer, recorded an 11% year-on-year increase in exports of crude and refined palm oil for the first seven months of 2025, reaching 13.64 million tons, emphasizing sustained global demand. In India, the largest importer, demand projections improved ahead of the mid-October Diwali festivities. Nonetheless, the bullish momentum faced limitations due to growing concerns over a potential seasonal increase in production and cautious trading during the shorter trading week.
