The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, an indicator of the costs associated with transporting dry commodities via sea, showed a moderate rise of 0.4% to reach 2,025 points on Friday. This increase comes after the index experienced a 1.4% decline in the preceding session. Specifically, the capesize index, which is known for carrying sizable cargo loads of around 150,000 tons, including commodities like iron ore and coal, climbed by 1.4% to stand at 2,925 points. Additionally, the supramax index saw a slight uptick of 0.3%, reaching 1,465 points. However, the panamax index, associated with transporting cargoes of 60,000 to 70,000 tons, typically coal or grain, decreased by approximately 1.4% to 1,847 points. Over the week, the dry bulk index demonstrated impressive growth, increasing by 4.2%—its most robust weekly gain since July 21—propelled by substantial upticks across various vessel categories.
