2025.09.0506:42:40UTC+00Steel Rises Amid Softer Post-Parade Recovery

Steel rebar futures rose above CNY 3,060 per tonne on Friday, recovering from an eight-week low as production resumed in Chinese mills following disruptions caused by recent military parade-related output restrictions. Despite this, the expected upswing in production fell short of market predictions, as operations at the mills only resumed on Thursday. Meanwhile, inventories of key steel products have been accumulating since mid-August, highlighting continued weak demand amid an ongoing downturn in the property market. This surplus is exerting downward pressure on prices and may curb mills' inclination to increase production. In the corporate arena, Nippon Steel announced on Wednesday that it has withdrawn its civil lawsuit in the United States concerning its intended acquisition of United States Steel. Both companies affirmed on Thursday that they would "remain focused on steelmaking and collective bargaining."
