In July 2025, passenger car registrations within the European Union experienced a significant increase of 7.4% compared to the previous year, reaching 914,680 units. This marks a robust recovery following a 7.3% decline witnessed in June. The resurgence was largely attributed to notable growth in two of the EU's four major markets: Spain, which saw a 17.1% increase, and Germany, with an 11.1% rise. On the other hand, car registrations fell in France and Italy by 7.7% and 5.1%, respectively.

Within the battery electric vehicle (BEV) category, there was an impressive annual growth of 39.1% in registrations, particularly spurred by a substantial 127.1% surge in Spain. Germany also saw significant gains of 58.6%, accompanied by advancements in France (14.8%) and the Netherlands (10.2%). Over the first seven months of 2025, the overall car registrations in the EU decreased slightly by 0.7% year-on-year. However, the BEV sector demonstrated growth, with sales increasing by 12.5% to reach 1.01 million units, thus comprising 15.6% of the EU market. Among the four largest BEV markets, Germany (38.4%), Belgium (17.6%), and the Netherlands (6.5%) collectively accounted for 60% of total BEV registrations, whereas France experienced a 4.3% decline in BEV sales.
