2025.08.2803:39:40UTC+00Vietnam to Adopt E10 Fuel Next Year, Boosting U.S. Import Prospects

Vietnam is set to transition entirely to ethanol-blended gasoline, known as E10, by 2026, presenting a notable opportunity to increase imports of ethanol and corn from the United States. This information, as revealed in documents from the Ministry of Industry and Trade and accessed by Reuters, outlines the initiative to balance Vietnam's trade surplus with the U.S. The proposal characterizes this transition as a "quick and effective solution" to bolster U.S. imports and decrease the surplus. Last year, the U.S. faced a $123 billion trade deficit with Vietnam, marking one of its largest globally. In a recent move, Vietnam reduced its ethanol import tariff from 10% to 5%. Meanwhile, Donald Trump has suggested that U.S. exports to Vietnam could eventually encounter zero tariffs. Currently, Vietnam consumes less than 30 million tons of petroleum each year and has committed to increasing U.S. imports. The nation's six ethanol production facilities can only satisfy 40% of the anticipated demand for E10, indicating a significant need for imports.
