The Romanian economy grew by 0.2% year-on-year in the final quarter of 2025, in line with the second estimate and down from 1.7% in the previous quarter. This was the nineteenth consecutive quarter of expansion, but also the weakest growth in that period, weighed down by steep declines in government spending (-13.2%) and household consumption (-0.7%).

In contrast, gross fixed capital formation rose sharply (+8.2%), and net external demand supported GDP growth, as exports increased (+4.4%) at a faster pace than imports (+2.1%). On the production side, output fell most notably in professional, scientific and technical activities (-4.6%), financial intermediation and insurance (-1.8%), and wholesale and retail trade (-1.5%).

On a seasonally adjusted quarter-on-quarter basis, the economy contracted by 1.8% in the fourth quarter, a deeper decline than the revised 0.1% drop recorded in the previous quarter.
